Chicago Trip, September 2004

Looking down Wacker Drive towards Wrigley Building and Chicago Tribune On September 8th, 2004, I went to Chicago with my boss for a work conference. I'd never been to Chicago before so I was excited to get to see the city. For the conference I was staying at the Renaissance Hotel, which is right on Wacker Drive with views to the river and several landmark buildings in downtown Chicago. When I arrived in Chicago it was a very nice 75 degrees. The first evening I had to attend a reception/schmoozefest and then I was able to get outside to do some exploring. The weather was perfect and Chicago is a great city to explore at night. The lighting on the buildings is spectacular. I did a lot of walking that night and took a few pictures. You'll note throughout the pictures that there are pictures I took of my self from arm's length. Most of the time there wasn't someone to take a picture for me. I went from the Wrigley Building all the way to the Sears Tower and then along the river back to the hotel.

The next day, after an 8-hour committee meeting, my boss and I took a boat tour on the river and lake. This was a really cool way to see the city. They point out all of the historic buildings along the way. I wanted to go back after dinner and take their after dark cruise but didn't get done in time. I took many photos on the cruise and they can be seen below.

On Friday after finishing with the conference my boss and I headed back to the airport. Not to come home but instead to pick up our rental cars. He was going off to Michigan to visit relatives and I was going to spend the weekend site seeing. I was supposed to be getting a Dodge Magnum but when I got to the rental place, they were out of them. They wanted to put me in a Ford Taurus and I said no way to that. I saw a red Chrysler Sebring convertible parked out there and got them to give me that instead. This worked out really great since it is really cool to see the sites with the top down and with the weather during my stay, I had the top down day and night.

I got to do several things in Chicago while I was there. I saw lots of cool architecture and nightlife as well as getting to visit a friend who has two Panther Pink 1970 Dodge Chargers. He and I went out to a big cruise night at a restaurant. Below are some of the photos I took on my trip. I had a great time and will certainly be back again.

One of the main things I wanted to do while in the Chicago area was to visit the Frank Lloyd Wright home and studio in Oak Park, as well as the Robie House on the grounds of Chicago University. If you love architecture and history, these are must see destinations in Chicago.
